Payment
Why we only accept Monero
The way you pay can say as much about you as the way you talk. With a card, your bank statement shows who you paid. With Bitcoin, payments are public forever.1 With Monero, the blockchain doesn't show who paid, who received or how much.2 That's why SeTalk is paid only in Monero (XMR), only on this website, and never inside the app.3
Who learns that you paid
The same questions for three ways of paying. Checked on October 11, 2026.
| Question | Card | Bitcoin | Monero |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your bank or card company | Yes — the statement shows who you paid and how much | No — at most it sees a transfer to an exchange, if you bought the coins with your bank account | No — at most it sees a transfer to an exchange, if you bought the coins with your bank account |
| Anyone looking at the blockchain | — (no public record) | Yes — the addresses and amounts of every payment are public, and stay there forever1 | No — the sender, the receiver and the amount are hidden2 |
| The exchange where you bought the coins | — | Knows you bought Bitcoin, and can follow where it went on the public record1 | Knows you bought Monero |
| SeTalk | — (we don't accept cards) | — (we don't accept Bitcoin) | SeTalk's account service sees an invoice for your username, with no real name; the message servers don't3 |
Card cells describe how card payments generally work; SeTalk doesn't accept cards or Bitcoin. Sources at the end of this page.
The honest limit
Monero hides the payment on the blockchain. It doesn't hide the purchase. The exchange where you bought Monero knows you bought it, and it knows the address it sent the coins to when you withdrew them.
Send your Monero to your own wallet first, and pay the SeTalk invoice from there, not straight from the exchange.
In our account service, the invoice is tied only to your username, never to a real name.3 Our payment page (pay.setalk.app, which SeTalk runs) doesn't receive your username: it gets the plan and the amount of the invoice, and records the payment's times and status.3 Like any website, it also sees the IP address of the browser that opens it.
Where to get Monero
Most people buy Monero on an exchange that lists it in their country. Which exchanges offer it changes from country to country and over time, so we don't recommend a specific one.
Once you've bought it, move it to a wallet that you control (see below) before paying.
Suggested wallets
- Official Monero walletMonero GUI for Windows, macOS and Linux, from the Monero project.4
- Community walletsThe Monero project's download page lists community-maintained wallets, such as Cake Wallet, Feather and Monerujo. They are not made by the Monero core team or by SeTalk.4
Download a wallet only from its official site, and write down its recovery phrase on paper, away from your phone.
How to pay an invoice
- Pick a planIn your account on setalk.app, choose monthly, quarterly or yearly. You see the amount in US dollars before you confirm.3
- Open the invoiceThe Monero rate is locked for 60 minutes on the invoice. You go to our payment page, at pay.setalk.app.3
- Send the exact amountFrom your own wallet, send exactly the amount shown, before the invoice expires. An amount that is short, or a payment that arrives after the invoice expired, isn't activated automatically.3
- Follow the statusYou come back to setalk.app and the invoice page updates by itself. Coming back from the payment page doesn't mean the payment was received: only the status on the invoice page counts.3,5
You can have only one open invoice at a time. If you already have one, we take you to it.3
The invoice statuses
- New
- Waiting for payment. Expires at the time shown on the invoice.
- Processing
- Payment received. Waiting for confirmations from the Monero network.
- Paid
- Payment confirmed. Your subscription is valid until the date shown on the invoice.
- Partial
- Payment received with a problem (different amount or after the deadline). Write to SeTalk's public contact, contato@setalk.app, with the invoice number. The email address you write from becomes known to our support team.
- Expired
- This invoice expired without a confirmed payment. If you paid a moment ago, refresh: the status may still change.
- Invalid
- This invoice was invalidated. You can create another one.
No automatic charges. Each period is a new invoice that you pay when you choose. If your subscription expires, you have 7 days to read your conversations and renew; after that the app is locked until you renew. Nothing is deleted.3
